Elbeco To Expand Corporate Offices

Plans call for nearly doubling current Reading presence

READING, PA — Elbeco, Inc., President David L. Lurio announced the June 1 completion of a deal that gives the company control of a facility it had previously shared in the Muhlenberg Industrial Mall West on Route 61 south. Once renovations have been completed, Elbeco will occupy 85,000 square feet, nearly twice the 45,000-square-foot area that currently houses its corporate offices and main distribution center.

“We pursued the additional space to accommodate our significant internal growth in the past few years, as well as our projected growth over the next five years,” says Lurio. “The expansion will enable us to build our product inventories and realize increased efficiencies in our receiving and shipping activities.”

Elbeco plans to upgrade its receiving, inventory management, and order fulfillment layout and its logistics. The company also plans to upgrade its warehouse software and to implement additional new technologies that will provide further significant efficiencies.

“We’ll also have room to expand our customizing and after-treatment operations,” Lurio says. “The combined effect of these changes, in addition to overall improved operational efficiencies, will be to enhance our existing competitive advantages and our ability to provide superior customer service.”

Long-term, the additional space will allow Elbeco to assimilate inventories from businesses it has acquired, the most recent of which is Transcon Manufacturing, a California-based maker of fire, law enforcement, EMS, paramedic, and military uniforms.
